WWE Rumors: Do newlyweds Renee Young and Dean Ambrose have heat backstage?
What’s the story?
This past weekend, current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose and WWE broadcaster Renee Young tied the knot in Las Vegas. Shortly thereafter, during WWE’s “Superstar Shakeup”, Ambrose was moved to Monday Night Raw, while Renee Young became exclusive to Smackdown Live.
Was the splitting up of a newly married couple intentional by WWE? Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer weighed in.
In case you didn’t know...
While Ambrose and Young have been dating since 2013, they hadn’t really made any public comments on it. Ambrose, in particular, is well known for keeping his personal life just that – personal – and stays away from social media and the like.
However, in 2016, Renee Young became a cast member of WWE’s reality TV show Total Divas, bringing her relationship with the former WWE Champion to the forefront. During Ambrose’s feuding with Miz earlier this year, The A-Lister made mention in an interview with Young on how Young was “sleeping with” Ambrose, which then brought their relationship into the gaze of the WWE fans.

The heart of the matter
First off, we need to point out that this wasn’t a secret wedding, as many other news outlets have been reporting. Young and Ambrose didn’t go meet in the woods in the middle of the night, like in Braveheart. They got married in a small ceremony in Las Vegas (which, we might add, is also where Ambrose currently lives), without a lot of fanfare.
It’s unknown if the wedding was filmed for an episode of Total Divas but, come on, you totally know it was filmed for an episode of Total Divas.
Anyway, on his radio show, Meltzer theorised that WWE putting them on different shows so quickly after their wedding means one of two things. The first is that the company knew they were getting married and split them up anyway, feelings be damned. The second is that they simply did it without realising.
Either way, it doesn’t sound like there was any sort of malice on WWE’s part – more like indifference.
What’s next?
It’s hard to say, but it’s unlikely that this is going to have the same impact on Ambrose and Young that the brand split had on Alberto Del Rio and Paige. Young may be “exclusive” to Smackdown, but as a broadcaster, it’s not as if she doesn’t have some flexibility.
Author’s take
I really don’t have one, other than – as a fellow Cincinnatian, I’m a big fan of Dean and I wish him and Renee nothing but awesomeness in their marriage. I honestly think this whole situation with them being on different shows will turn out to be a non-issue.
