WWE Rumors: Face turns planned for Lacey Evans and returning superstar

WWE SmackDown has been getting some buzz lately with Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt being the central feud, while the Women's title picture seems to be heating up as well. Last week was notable by the returns of major names such as Sheamus (in a promo), Alexa Bliss, and Elias, the latter who was out with a while with an injury.

It seems as though WWE has taken a directional turn with Elias and one other superstar. According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has officially turned Lacey Evans and Elias face, albeit quietly.

Elias has been a heel for most of his WWE career, having a brief run as a babyface last year before he turned heel again. While his character seems to work more as a heel, it's not a bad idea to try this direction again.

As for Lacey Evans, perhaps WWE felt it was the right time to turn her face. She's set to be the next challenger to Bayley's SmackDown Women's Championship. She acted like a face during her match against Natalya in Saudi Arabia and she's getting another major push.

Will this face turn result in her winning her first Women's Championship in WWE? If not now, she will inevitably become a Champion down the line. She has been pushed as a title contender right off the bat after WrestleMania 35 but fell short when feuding against Becky Lynch.

It probably wouldn't be the best decision for her to win right now but with a somewhat weakened SmackDown Women's division, the decision to turn her face is understandable since Bayley and Sasha Banks are the top heels. Perhaps she will benefit from a move to SmackDown more than most and can finally realize her potential on the blue brand.
