WWE Rumours: Interesting backstage ideas for Hell In A Cell that didn't pan out

History was indeed made at Hell In A Cell

History was made last night at Hell In A Cell when Sasha Banks took on Charlotte inside Hell In A Cell. They were also the first women to ever main event a Pay-Per-View. As noted by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the decision to make the women go on last was a last minute one and not one that was planned much in advance.

There were several interesting ideas, particularly for three of the matches, according to Daily Wrestling News and The Inquisitr:

1)Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte:

According to Daily Wrestling News, there was lots of talk backstage, among officials about getting blood into the match. Some supported the idea feeling that getting the competitors to bleed would up the ante and the importance of the bout, while the other officials were more concerned about the safety of the competitors.

Clearly, the latter party prevailed because there was no blood. However, that did not stop it from having many high-risk spots, a few of which were botched as well. There was reportedly genuine concern backstage that both Sasha and Charlotte would put their health at risk to put on a great match.

The title change was not planned until the last minute as well. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that one of the reasons they put the title back on Charlotte was to speed up a Charlotte vs. Bayley feud.

2)Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins:

The biggest scrambling of plans happened for the Universal Championship Hell In A Cell match, with regards to the involvement of Chris Jericho in the match. Officials apparently were set to give Jericho a role in the match, but none of the decisions were officially made.

There were apparently talks to have Jericho as a special guest referee in the match, but those plans were scrapped at the last minute.

There were even talks of a Triple H run-in, but due to the fact that the match was not going to be the main event of the show, they decided to save his appearance for another show.

3)The New Day vs. Cesaro & Sheamus

Apparently, WWE has been very impressed with the oddball pairing of Cesaro and Sheamus. There was genuine consideration of putting the Tag Team titles on them, but WWE wants The New Day to break Demolition’s record, which they are just about 44 days or so, away from.

At the same time, they did not want to make Cesaro and Sheamus look weak, so they went with the Disqualification finish.

The Inquisitr stated that while last minute decisions are not uncommon in WWE, there usually aren’t this many last minute changes made either.
