WWE Rumors: Is Charlotte Flair turning babyface tonight?
What's the story?
Based on the storyline that WWE started to go with last week, could Charlotte Flair be turning babyface tonight on SmackDown?
In case you didn't know
Charlotte Flair was drafted to SmackDown LIVE! during the Superstar shake-up two weeks ago. Last week she requested an immediate title shot at the SmackDown Women's Championship currently held by Naomi. Shane McMahon granted her request providing she could beat the Champion in a non-title match.
Charlotte accepted and went on to defeat Naomi, earning herself a title match against her tonight. However, the decision to grant Charlotte a shot was not appreciated by the heel women on SmackDown; Natalya, Carmella and Tamina Snuka, all of whom confronted Charlotte and protested the decision with SmackDown GM, Shane McMahon.
Later on, Charlotte appeared on Talking Smack and did not come across as a heel whatsoever.
The Heart of the matter
If you are confronted by heels, this usually makes you a babyface. It's also worth noting that Charlotte beat Naomi clean in the middle of the ring.
In addition to that, their match is happening tonight and not at the Backlash PPV, meaning it's likely that it's either going to be a non-finish or Naomi is winning. I'm certain that a Charlotte win would be saved for a PPV, therefore I am fully expecting Naomi to retain in some questionable fashion.
What's next?
Charlotte and Naomi will clash on SmackDown in a few hours for the SmackDown Women's Championship.
Author's Take
I personally think we will see a non-finish tonight, with Naomi and Charlotte going into separate programs at Backlash against two of the three heels who complained about Charlotte's title match last week.
I don't personally agree with Charlotte's face turn. She is a natural heel and one of the best in the company right now. Perhaps the decision to turn her is based on the fact that she has earned so much respect as a heel, that they think she could earn a lot of money for the company as a babyface.
You did not have to look very far to see angry fans commenting about Charlotte’s loss to Bayley at WWE Fastlane, which ended her PPV streak. However, I feel the anger was more so about the bad booking rather than a desire to get behind Charlotte.
Either way, wrestling logic indicates that she will be turning face tonight, but we will find out for sure in just a few hours.
