WWE Rumors: John Cena set for new role on WWE TV
What's the story?
John Cena recently returned to WWE TV and announced that he would be part of the upcoming Royal Rumble match, but it appears that the former World Champion could have been given one objective on his return.
In case you didn't know...
Cena was part of the fatal four-way match on Monday Night Raw that saw Finn Balor named as Brock Lesnar's new opponent at next weekend's Rumble event, but interestingly he was the star that was pinned in order for Balor to be given the shot.
Cena then went on to put Balor over as the future of Raw following the victory, which shows that Cena has now slipped into a new role on WWE TV.
The heart of the matter
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer recently confirmed that this was the role that Cena has now been given and it would make sense since his reported match at WrestleMania is said to be against former NXT star Lars Sullivan.
Balor is obviously set for a huge push on WWE TV, which is why the former Universal Champion is being given his shot at the title that he never lost at The Rumble. Cena has a number of projects lined up outside of WWE over the next few months, so he isn't expected to be a regular star in the company in the near future.
What's next?
John Cena will be part of the upcoming Royal Rumble match where he is expected to pick up a feud that will lead him to WrestleMania.
