WWE Rumors: Original plans for Champion vs. Champion match at Survivor Series 2019
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Sasha Banks due to her leave of absence from WWE since WrestleMania 35.
Speaking on the latest edition of Sportskeeda’s Dropkick DiSKussions Podcast, Tom Colohue revealed that WWE originally had plans for a Champion vs. Champion match between Banks and Bayley at Survivor Series 2019.
Where has Sasha Banks been?
Sasha Banks and Bayley lost the Women’s Tag Team Championship to The IIconics in a Fatal 4-Way match at WrestleMania 35.
Since then, Bayley has re-established herself as one of WWE’s top female singles Superstars by winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship, while Banks has not appeared on any WWE shows over the last four months.
The four-time Raw Women’s Champion has remained active on social media by regularly posting holiday pictures on Instagram and cryptic messages on Twitter, but she has not yet commented on her status with WWE.
Meanwhile, it was widely reported in April that she requested her release from WWE after WrestleMania 35, leading to her being granted some time off.
Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
Ever since their NXT rivalry in 2015, Sasha Banks and Bayley have been involved in various storylines together on WWE’s main roster.
Tom Colohue mentioned that, following the end of their 49-day reign as the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions, there was a long-term plan for The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection to hold separate titles on Raw and SmackDown Live, culminating in a Survivor Series match, but WWE changed their plans when Banks took a break.
"To my knowledge, the team was split up and lost the titles so that they could go to separate brands and be the Champions and wrestle each other at Survivor Series. They were split up intentionally with that in mind. This obviously has not happened now."
When will Sasha Banks return?
As ever with WWE pay-per-views, many fans are speculating that Sasha Banks will make her long-awaited comeback in Toronto, Ontario at SummerSlam on August 11.
Interestingly, Becky Lynch called out Banks this week for “crying like Ronda Rousey” after losing the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 35, so it appears that there is a ready-made storyline for her on Raw.
For now, fans will have to try to decipher cryptic tweets from “The Boss” while waiting for her return.
