What's the story?

With WrestleMania 35 inching ever closer day by day, attention starts to swirl around just who may or may not be a part of the annual show.

According to Ringsidenews.com, Mike Johnson noted on PW Insider Elite radio that he hasn't heard much regarding a match for the Undertaker at WrestleMania 35, but there are still two months to get things going.

In case you missed it . . .

We haven't seen The Undertaker since his tag team match with Kane against DX at the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.

The Deadman has appeared more during the past year than he has in other years when he has usually only appeared to set up a match for WrestleMania.

Since things for a match with John Cena basically came to be shortly before WrestleMania 34, might things occur in the same matter for this year's event?

The heart of the matter

The Undertaker is a fixture at the annual extravaganza, and even though his streak was ended by Brock Lesnar, a match with the Deadman is often seen as a worthy consolation prize to anyone not competing for a title at the event. Mike Johnson discussed a possible role for the Undertaker at this year's show.

“The Undertaker I would expect to have him as a cameo. I haven’t heard about him wrestling. Remember they didn’t advertise that he was really, really, really gonna be there until WrestleMania was already taking place.”

At last year's event, John Cena basically sat ringside as a fan experiencing WrestleMania until he was notified that the Undertaker was 'in the building'. The two had a short match won by the Undertaker.

Cena had spent months calling out the Undertaker but his efforts were fruitless until the day of the event itself.

The Undertaker has worked more dates over the last year or so, and he would probably be willing to show up at WrestleMania 35 if he isn't in a match. A hefty payday would certainly get him to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in April.

Ringsidenews.com did bring up a previous report from Jon Fisher on the Oh You Didn't Know podcast where he revealed that the Undertaker wasn't officially retiring but was taking a year off.

What's next?

There is still plenty of time to either build to a WrestleMania program or come up with a creative way for the Phenom to be involved with the Show of Shows.

The Undertaker has earned the right to take at least one WrestleMania off.

Fans have come to expect him to be at the event regardless of the quality of his matches at the age of 53.

He has more than earned a year off if that is what is truly happening, so if he does not appear in a match but in a segment or in a cameo, that would be fine by me.

It would also be fine in my book if he didn't show up at all at the event. He's done plenty for the WWE and fans will have to get over him not being at WrestleMania at some point in the near future.
