WWE Rumors: Reason Rich Swann won the Cruiserweight Championship on 205 Live

Rich Swann became the third Cruiserweight Champion on 205 Live

According to Ring Side News, the reason the Cruiserweight Championship changed hands on 205 Live was to build interest in the show. In the main event of 205 Live, Rich Swann defeated The Brian Kendrick to become the third and new Cruiserweight Champion.

The report by Ring Side News stated that there is no word as to how long WWE plan to keep the title on him. Swann has become one of the most popular Cruiserweights in the division along with Cedric Alexander, primarily due to his entertainment value as a babyface.

Swann had pinned The Brian Kendrick on two occasions and then defeated former Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins and Noam Dar in a Triple Threat match to become the number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship.

So far, the Cruiserweights on Raw have not worked out, in terms of reaction, as expected. The high-flying style of the Cruiserweights, originally from WCW was used to get the crowd hot and running for the show. However, with the completely separate presentation mixed with other factors, the crowds seem apathetic towards the Cruiserweights.

Many fans who watched the Cruiserweight Classic on the WWE Network believe that they have been watered down from the critically acclaimed tournament. It should be noted that one of the special things about the CWC was the Full Sail crowd and their enthusiasm towards what they were seeing.

For the first episode of 205 Live, a good chunk of the audience in Columbus, South Carolina had already left the arena, leaving security the job of shuffling the audience to particular seats so that the arena did not appear empty on television. The lighting also intentionally did not focus on the upper layers, which were mostly empty.
