WWE Rumors: Roman Reigns to surrender United States Championship to Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho’s current run with WWE has established him as one of the top guys in the company

Chris Jericho has been at the helm of things on Monday Night RAW for a while now. Despite portraying a heel persona, he is one of the most over superstars in the WWE. Armed with “The List of Jericho” and catch phrases like “Stupid Idiot”, Jericho has made 2016 his year.

It seems that WWE are set to reward Jericho with the United States Championship soon. According to rumours from Fansided, Roman might drop the United States Championship at Roadblock to none other than Chris Jericho. As of this writing, Owens and Reigns are set to face off at the pay per view in a Champion vs. Champion clash.

Jericho has always been involved in Owens’ matches helping him many a time to retain the WWE Universal Championship. Jericho, in fact, turned the Owens vs. Rollins match at Hell In A Cell into a two on one Handicap match in favour of Owens.

Now, a combination of Jericho as the United States Champion and Owens as the Universal Champion may be interesting as well as entertaining.

Reigns hasn’t done too much with the United States title except for a brief feud with Rusev. The rumour mills are generating rumours that Reigns might go on to face Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Reigns has still not been able to shake off the persistent chorus of boos that have followed him for the better part of two years. Some time away from the title picture might do him a world of good.

Jericho on the other hand has become a top guy in the company. A run with the United States Championship would be the cherry on the cake given Jericho’s current run. “The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla” could use the belt to engage in intense feuds with the likes of Sami Zayn and Cesaro.

Jericho has already proved that age is just a number and that he can bring out the best in young talent. A program with a returning Finn Balor might also be on the cards.

Chris Jericho is a record 9 time Intercontinental Champion and a multiple time World Champion, but he has never held the United States Championship. A title run would not only solidify Jericho’s legacy but also restore some prestige to the United States Title that has predominantly been a feature of the mid card.
