WWE Rumors: Samoa Joe not coming up to the main roster any time soon
Many believed that Samoa Joe would lose to Shinsuke Namakura at NXT Takeover: Toronto in a rematch from Brooklyn and would then proceed to go up to the main roster. However, much to the shock of the WWE Universe, The Samoan Submission Machine conquered The King Of Strong Style to become the first-ever two-time NXT Champion.
Ringside News reported that the title change was done to keep the feud going, between the two and that there are no plans to call up Samoa Joe to the main roster anytime soon.
A rematch between the two is set to happen on December 3rd in Osaka, Japan in a live event. While Live events do technically have title defences, titles normally don’t change hands (except the one occasion at Lowell, Massachusetts). However, it is being advertised on television, so it may very well be televised.
It would make sense for Nakamura to win the title back in his home country, but it would be an extremely short reign for Joe. It won’t be surprising to see a possible Joe vs Nakamura 4 at NXT Takeover: San Antonio.
There was a strong belief that Nakamura dropped the championship in just 91 days because of a looming call-up to the main roster. A similar thing happened to American Alpha, where they were built heavily for many months to be the top faces of NXT’s Tag Team division, and they dropped the titles back to The Revival in just two months.
This was done to call them up to the main roster, just a month and a half later.
This does not necessarily mean that Nakamura is guaranteed to get the call-up soon, but it certainly is a possibility. It must be noted, however, that NXT does occasionally love to pull one over the fans and give them something unexpected. So the title change could very much be a result of that.
