What's the story?

WWE has been hit with another unfortunate spell of injuries as Seth Rollins joined AJ Styles and Sasha Banks on the list of stars who are legitimately hurt.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer has provided an update on The Architect's injury and the timeline of his return to action on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio.

In case you didn't know...

Rollins won the men's Royal Rumble match and punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 35 where he will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

However, the former WWE Champion was pulled from the Raw episode this past week owing to his injury. Reports suggest that WWE had to rewrite the plans for Raw after they received news on Rollins' injury despite the fact that he was backstage during the show.

The Universal title feud for Mania was prominently showcased on Raw through vignettes that featured Rollins and the Beast Incarnate.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer revealed that Rollins is currently dealing with a bad back and isn't expected to miss WrestleMania 35. However, he did mention that WWE would most likely take the safe route and give Rollins some much-needed rest, which means he may miss at least one of the upcoming PPVs.

WWE gave Rollins the night off on the previous episode on Raw as a precautionary measure to protect their biggest star heading into the Show of Shows.

It is a smart move from the WWE as Rollins should ideally have the month of February to get back to optimum shape before he goes full steam for the Mania programme with the Beast.

What's next?

WWE's next PPV is Elimination Chamber which is scheduled to take place on February 17th, 2019. The final show before WrestleMania 35 would be Fastlane which will happen on March 10th, 2019.

WWE could let Rollins skip Elimination Chamber so that he makes it back to the ring in time for the final pitstop before Mania. There is no need to panic though as Rollins isn't suffering from a very serious injury and should return to action sooner rather than later.
