From the WWE Rumor Mill: The Hardys Nearly Brought This Impact Wrestling Announcer To WWE With Them
What’s the story?
When Matt and Jeff Hardy left Impact Wrestling shortly before WrestleMania 33, they weren’t the only ones dealing with an uncertain future with the company. It turns out there was also a member of the TNA announce team that the Broken brothers wanted to bring with them.
The background
This past February, the contracts of both Matt and Jeff with Impact Wrestling expired. According to the brothers, a new deal with the company was offered way too late, causing them to feel disrespected which meant that they did not re-sign.
Instead, the brothers signed a short-term deal with Ring of Honor – during which they won the promotion’s Tag Team championships as part of their “Expedition of Gold”, and would eventually return to WWE in April and win the Raw Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 33.
The heart of the matter
According to rumours posted by The Wrestling Observer, The Hardys didn’t intend to enter the WWE alone. The newsletter reports that the brothers wanted to get long time TNA/Impact announcer Jeremy Borash to come with them to WWE.
However, Borash felt that he had too much going on at the time – work is work, after all – and decided to stick with Impact Wrestling.
What’s next?
Currently, the Hardys are the Raw Tag Team Champions and seem to be heading into a feud with Sheamus and Cesaro – and possibly heading into their previous “Broken” territory. In the meantime, Borash is still at Impact and engaged in a feud with fellow commentator Josh Matthews.
Author’s Take
I’m not the biggest Impact Wrestling fan – I caught them on and off over the years and they had me hooked for a bit during the Tag Team Apocalypto matches.
And, while I actually do have a lot of respect for Jeremy Borash, I honestly think it seems like he’s still enjoying himself at Impact. Do I think he would do well in WWE? Sure. But, I said the same thing about Arda Ocal, and while he did a great job, that really didn’t pan out, either.
