WWE Rumors: The Usos favourites to win Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Backlash
This past Smackdown Live, American Alpha made a quick work of The Usos when they defeated them in thirty seconds after The Usos jump started and attacked Alpha from behind. Alpha was originally scheduled to face Heath Slater and Rhyno in the finals of the Smackdown Tag Team Championship tournament at Backlash.
However, Shane McMahon announced that due to The Usos assault on Chad Gable’s leg, Alpha would be taken out of the finals, and at Backlash, the semi-finalist runner ups The Hype Bros and The Usos would face off for a place in the finals.
At first, it was reported that Heath Slater and Rhyno would be winning the Smackdown Tag Team Championships due to Jason Jordan interfering and costing The Usos the match. However, it must be noted that while Slater, in particular, has gotten extremely over with the audience, and WWE are looking for this as an opportunity to gain more heat with The Usos.
The fans have turned on The Usos for quite a while now, even more so since their association with Roman Reigns back in November last year. In fact, The Usos themselves have openly stated that as a reason for many of the fans turning on them.
Another reason the fans disliked The Usos was that they felt they were very bland and didn’t have much to offer. However, there is no denying that The Usos are tremendous athletes.
After the brand split, American Alpha was brought up to Smackdown Live to be the top babyface tag team of the brand. Due to the lack of tag teams in the division, they needed a good heel team to counter them and for Alpha to have a long-term feud with, and thus The Usos fit the mould perfectly, as they are a team the WWE Universe has soured on, and also, capable of being a top tag team as they have for the past 6 years since debuting in WWE.
Now, if The Usos are to win at Backlash and gain more heat, this would mean they would be Tag Team Champions for a while to come, until Alpha eventually conquers them and have their coronation. The question also leads to being, what would the fate of Heath Slater be if he doesn't win the title, and then the Smackdown contract?
Well, the word as of now is that Daniel Bryan and Shane might just hand him a contract anyway, regardless of a win or loss.
