What's the story?

According to Fightful Select, WWE SmackDown Live Superstar Kevin Owens is not going to be a part of Super ShowDown.

Owens' absence led to WWE booking Dolph Ziggler vs Kofi Kingston at the upcoming event.

In case you didn't know...

Kevin Owens made his return to the squared circle on the road to WrestleMania 35, and was originally scheduled to kick off a rivalry with The Planet's Champion Daniel Bryan.

The rise of KofiMania prevented that from happening, and Kofi Kingston became the WWE Champion at The Show of Shows. He recently shared Vince McMahon's reaction on his victory.

Owens eventually turned on Kofi, a mere week after he joined The New Day as an honorary member. Unfortunately for Owens though, he failed to defeat Kingston at the Money In The Bank PPV. Rumor had it that the two were going to have a rematch at the June 7th show, but those plans have been scrapped in favor of Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler.

The heart of the matter

Last year, top Superstars John Cena and Daniel Bryan both weren't too thrilled with competing in Saudi Arabia, and were not booked for Crown Jewel.

The November event led to WWE facing heat from the wrestling world and media for going on with the event even after the Kingdom had been marred with controversy surrounding the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Now, Kevin Owens has chosen the same route and recently informed WWE that he won't be competing in the upcoming June 7th event in Saudi Arabia. This led to WWE modifying original plans and bringing back Ziggler to face Kofi Kingston for the WWE Title.

What's next?

The returning Ziggler, and Kingston will face off at Super ShowDown for Kofi's WWE Title.
