WWE Rumors: Update on Luke Harper's release request, original plans
What's the story?
Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio recently provided an update on Luke Harper's release request from WWE.
Meltzer stated that WWE had planned a feud between Harper and Sami Zayn, which has been scrapped as of now.
In case you didn't know...
The former member of The Wyatt Family, Luke Harper recently shocked the WWE Universe by posting a photo on Instagram, stating that he had requested a release from WWE.
Harper added that his WWE run was an amazing experience for him, and he's proud of what he has been able to accomplish over the course of his WWE tenure. He finished off the message by thanking the fans for their support.
Here's the post that Harper made.
Dave Meltzer had previously reported that WWE didn't grant Harper his release, and ended up adding six more months to the former Intercontinental Champion's contract.
The heart of the matter
As per the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had planned for Luke Harper to feud with Sami Zayn, but the plans were scrapped later. Meltzer stated that the feud was canceled for an unknown reason, with the higher-ups not havng anything for the Superstar to do on the main roster.
He’s been told that not only is he not released but his contract is being extended. The gist is that he was coming back and he was going to be in a program with Sami Zayn and, for whatever reason, they canceled it and he just felt they don’t have anything [for him].
Meltzer also said that the wrestling business tends to be a cruel one at times, and Harper is one of the unfortunate Superstars who got a bad deal.
What's next?
It seems like Harper is going to have to sit out the rest of his contract. The promising athlete could have utilized an early release and tried his hand somewhere else, but unfortunately, it's going to be a while before we see Luke Harper wrestle in a promotion other that WWE.
