What's the story?

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre disappeared during the 6-man tag team main event on SmackDown Live, as fans inside the arena saw him walk away from the ring during a commercial break.

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio has stated that McIntyre wasn't injured-- which is being speculated by many-- and the walkout was preplanned by WWE as a measure to protect him.

In case you didn't know...

On this week's edition of SmackDown Live, The Bar interrupted The New Day's celebration of Kofi's WWE Title win at WrestleMania 35.

A 6-man tag team match was set for later on in the night, with Drew McIntyre being revealed as The Bar's mystery partner. The match went underway with McIntyre getting the upper hand on the babyfaces. When the show returned from a commercial break, Drew was nowhere to be seen.

The heart of the matter

McIntyre was seen walking to the back during the commercial. It was speculated that The Scottish Psychopath suffered an injury during the match, but it's now being refuted by Dave Meltzer from WOR.

Meltzer said that McIntyre's exit in the middle of the match was a pre-planned move by WWE. After his loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, the higher-ups decided to go this route because McIntyre is being groomed to be the top heel. The idea behind this move was to not feature McIntyre anywhere near the end, during The New Day's victory.

What's next?

If Meltzer is correct here, we might get to see McIntyre being protected even more as we move ahead. The Scottish Psychopath has the look, physique, and charisma to cement himself as a top heel in the company.
