WWE Rumors: WWE potentially laying foundation for a New Day break up at WrestleMania 35?
What's the story?
Kofi Kingston's road just to get a WWE Championship match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 has been one of the featured storylines on the way to the Biggest Show of the Year.
Although his New Day teammates actually secured Kingston's title shot last night after weeks of constant obstacles, Brad Shepard of the Oh You Didn't Know podcast thinks all the posturing might lead to a break up of the New Day at WrestleMania 35.
In case you missed it...
Kofi Kingston gained the backing of the WWE Universe when he lasted over an hour in the gauntlet match before the Elimination Chamber as well as lasting to the final two against Bryan in the same match.
Since that performance, Mr. McMahon has forced Kingston to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds each week on SmackDown just in order to go to WrestleMania.
The heart of the matter
The New Day is so close as a unit on screen and backstage that they actually opened the show last night by questioning whether or not they should all just quit WWE together.
They asked Mr. McMahon to come out and tell the why Kingston isn't worthy of getting a deserved title shot against Bryan.
McMahon called their bluff by saying they wouldn't quit but said that if Xavier Woods and Big E could win a gauntlet match of their own, then Kofi Kingston would be facing Bryan for the WWE Championship.
Brad Shepard mentioned on his 'Oh You Didn't Know' podcast that the fact that he finally got his shot thanks to his friends winning a gauntlet match might lead to a major angle at 'Mania.
"[Kofi] can't get the job done on his own. He's told he is a B plus player so what do they do? They have his partners - his partners actually get the opportunity for him and the only way that makes sense to me is if they turn on Kingston at WrestleMania or maybe the night after.
Mr. McMahon has noted recently that he felt that some superstars have become stale, so he may have lumped the New Day in with that statement and wanted to be a part of the stable breaking up.
"I don't see any other way a story like that makes sense. It certainly doesn't do Kofi Kingston any favors."
What's next?
Since Kingston officially has his title match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania, what becomes of his teammates?
WWE hasn't exactly announced a solid plan for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles yet, so perhaps they are put into some multi-team match for those titles or just are shown supporting Kingston throughout the night.
A New Day break up would certainly freshen up the product and the three superstars involved, but WWE doesn't exactly have many credible stables on the main roster that could take their place.
The shows after 'Mania itself might also have the explosive break up as WWE often tries to have huge storylines/debuts take place on the Raw and SmackDown immediately after WrestleMania.
