WWE Rumors: WWE looking to raid Ring Of Honor roster
Ring Of Honor contracts usually expire around the same time. This time period is the end of a calendar year. This year, in particular, a lot of contracts are set to expire, and according to Daily Wrestling News, WWE officials will be looking to raid the Ring Of Honor roster in early 2017, as several contracts are set to expire by then.
The report by Daily Wrestling News states that The Young Bucks are WWE’s top priority to sign right now. Steve Corino, the Ring Of Honor commentator, is set to join the WWE Performance Center, as a full-time trainer after his Ring Of Honor contract expires. Until then, he is not allowed to talk about it.
Some of the other group of performers, who WWE will most definitely be looking to sign, are the likes of Adam Cole and Jay Lethal (who are potential main event talents on both NXT and WWE), Dalton Castle, Kyle O’ Rilley, Bobby Fish, Rhett Titus, War Machine, and Donovan Dijak, among others.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that the number one priority is to get Adam Cole into NXT. He also said that The Young Bucks are unlikely to leave Ring Of Honor for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, they are making WWE-level money on the independents and are one of the few to do so.
Secondly, their merchandise sales are through the roof in Prowrestlingtees.com. They will likely make more money through that than they would in WWE. Thirdly, The Young Bucks are said to work an estimated 75 dates a year, which is at least a hundred less than what they would in WWE.
The Young Bucks are also said to be enjoying performing in Japan as well. Another issue could be the creative restrictions they might have in WWE, compared to ROH and the indies.
However, with regards to the other talent, WWE is very likely to offer high prices to talents such as Cole and Lethal, which will tempt them to jump ship. ROH has already had to pay higher prices to convince a lot of the talent to stay, but they can’t afford to do that for all their talent.
Not to mention, talents such as Jay Lethal have done all they need to do in the company and may have more ambitions on a bigger stage. Adam Cole has openly stated that his ultimate goal is to headline Wrestlemania. However, Cole is still the ROH World Champion, so that is a factor that could hinder the move unless he drops the title before the year ends.
