WWE Rumors: WWE reportedly has big plans for Tag Team Division
What's the story?
One of the divisions that has been majorly lacking in the WWE over the last year or so, has been the company's tag team divisions, and primarily Raw's division.
Bodyslam.net is reporting via Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has apparently told its tag team division that they 'will be given more importance now'.
In case you didn't know...
WWE's tag team division on Raw has been a blended group of singles' stars thrown together mixed with underused and under-pushed tag teams from NXT.
AOP was supposed to be a stabilizing force for the division, as were the Revival, but WWE hasn't done much with either team.
Teams like Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose both had short tag title runs and broke up too soon.
The current tag team champions on Raw are Chad Gable and Bobby Roode, who are two more singles stars. Did the Revival's potential release request force WWE's hand into focusing more on the division?
The heart of the matter
Last night's edition of Raw saw Heavy Machinery make their Raw in-ring debut in a win against the Ascension.
Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder also potentially reunited after Ryder made a save for Hawkins after the Revival attacked Hawkins whom they blamed for another title loss.
Dave Meltzer discussed the happenings of last night's Raw on Wrestling Observer Radio, reporting that WWE has told the tag team division that they 'will be given more importance now'.
“That’s the idea is that they’re going to start promoting the tag team division. That’s what they’re telling all the tag teams. Yeah, they’re doing it, they’re going to start building up the division. That’s why we got Dozovic and those guys. We got Hawkins and Ryder back together. Everyone was waiting for Hawkins and Ryder’s return.”
The Revival was shown in a backstage segment with Mr. McMahon where they petitioned him for one more shot at the Raw Tag Team titles with a special guest referee. Curt Hawkins interrupted the conversation, and Mr. McMahon made Hawkins the referee.
Hawkins called the match down the middle but was attacked by Wilder and Dawson after the match. He was saved from the attack by Ryder.
Heavy Machinery also easily defeated the Ascension in a match that further showcased the hoss team, and more so Otiz Dozovic' entertaining potential.
What's next?
While Gable and Roode are still the tag team champs, more emphasis being put on the division could only be a good thing if this report is true.
WWE still might just want to get the NXT recruits on television every week, whether in backstage segments or in matches.
Nikki Cross had a match last week, so perhaps it was simply Heavy Machinery's turn. Maybe EC3 will actually get to talk in the future rather than just pose.
It's a cliche, but only time will tell if more focus and effort is put into the tag team division on Raw. It severely needs it, so perhaps this was the first step in a potential reboot of the division.
