WWE Rumors: WWE wants Broken Hardys gimmick for merchandise purposes

Wonderful!

What's the story?

As reported by Cageside Seats, one of the main reasons the WWE wants to utilise the Broken Hardys gimmick is because they believe they can sell a lot of merchandise with it. The Hardys are currently enjoying their reign as Raw Tag Team Champions following their return at WrestleMania 33.

In case you didn't know...

Ever since they popped up at the Citrus Bowl, fans have been divided when it comes to whether the WWE will actually pull the trigger on Matt & Jeff being "broken". Matt has shown signs of the gimmick since ‘Mania, pulling facial expressions and uttering the word "delete" - with both traits resembling the popular character that he created in TNA.

The heart of the matter

The aforementioned report does indeed suggest that merchandise is one of the big selling points when it comes to turning Matt and Jeff into these characters, however, they have still capitalised on their return by releasing some standard Hardy Boyz merch on the WWE Shop.

With that being said, it may only be a matter of time until they decide to break the brothers up and have them go in opposite directions.

What's next?

With their tag team title match against Cesaro & Sheamus right around the corner, it seems more and more likely with each passing day that The Hardys will indeed drop the titles at WWE Payback.

If this does in fact happen, expect Matt and Jeff to begin their singles careers shortly afterwards with Jeff going on to be the marketing machine that WWE knows he can be.

Author's take

We personally love both Matt and Jeff Hardy, but we feel as if they need to hold off on their eventual break up until around SummerSlam. Have them lose the titles at Bad Blood and then begin a feud heading into the biggest event of the summer, with Matt taking on the ‘broken’ gimmick once more and Jeff continuing to be the charismatic enigma.
