Rumour: Daniel Bryan's injury behind Chris Jericho's return to the WWE

Chris Jericho will be staying for a while

As reported earlier, Chris Jericho’s return to the WWE is not a short term thing as he has notified his fans on Twitter that he will be available throughout the summer.

Although there has been no official word on his contract, it is believed that short-term deal has been agreed between him and the WWE.

On his return to Raw, Y2J was immediately attacked by The Wyatt Family which has setup a potential main event feud between him and Bray Wyatt at the upcoming SummerSlam PPV in August.

Jericho was back on his weekly podcast show Talk is Jericho as he addressed the WWE universe about his return. The  Fozzy frontman revealed the details behind his return where he mentioned how he had pitched the idea of working with Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt at the end of 2013. The backstage officials apparently approved the idea of a feud with The Eater of the Worlds and went to a great extent to keep his return a surprise.

Daniel Bryan’s injury led to Jericho’s return

However, Jericho did not state that his return may have been due to the fact that Daniel Bryan was forced out of action due to his neck injury. His lengthy absence may have prompted the WWE officials to bring Jericho back in order to have a strong card fro the upcoming pay-per-view-shows.

As Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported:

"With Bryan out indefinitely, that may have played a role in bringing back Jericho, to work a program with Wyatt. Jericho and WWE had remained on good terms from his last departure. They were in talks about returning for Mania season, but it didn’t happen because Jericho didn’t want to come back unless he felt the creative was in place....

Talks for Jericho to return had been going on, on-and-off, since that time. They apparently heated up about a month ago, which probably coincides with the bad news on Bryan’s recovery and the company feeling they had a top slot open. The deal wasn’t fully agreed to and completed until 6/27, the point at which Vince McMahon green lit the Wyatt program."

That perhaps explains Jericho’s return even though the comeback doesn’t change the fact the roster depth still remains week. It will be interesting to see how the WWE utilises Jericho in the coming weeks and makes his presence count.
