WWE Rumours: Baron Corbin to be in WWE World Championship frame soon
Baron Corbin is undoubtedly one of the brightest young superstars in the WWE at present. Having been a prominent face on NXT since joining the company in 2012, Corbin received a major boost when he won the inaugural Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy by winning the battle royal held for it at Wrestlemania earlier this year.
This was followed by a debut on the main roster for the big man on the post-Mania episode of Raw. Since then, Corbin has been involved in various feuds with different wrestlers but hasn’t yet been in the picture for any of the titles in the WWE.
However, according to some rumours that are doing the rounds, ‘The Lone Wolf’ is going to be in the WWE World Championship frame during the first half of 2017. This is certainly great news, not only for Corbin but also for the WWE Universe as they may now be able to witness 6 foot 8 inches tall superstar perform to his full potential.
The SmackDown Live superstar’s latest feud in the WWE has been with former 2-time United States Champion Kalisto. It all started when Corbin attacked ‘The King Of Flight’ for a number of weeks after both wrestlers lost to Apollo Crews in a triple threat match for a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.
Kalisto, who was apparently out injured for several months after the assault, returned to action on a pre-Survivor Series episode of SmackDown Live. Since Baron Corbin refused to take part in a tag team match that night, the show’s commissioner Shane McMahon put him in a match against the returning superstar.
Corbin appeared to have suffered an injury during the match and was replaced in the blue brand’s Survivor Series team by McMahon. The rivalry between ‘The Lone Wolf’ and Kalisto continued to build, though, and led to them competing in a ‘chairs’ match at the TLC pay-per-view last Sunday, where the former won.
Baron Corbin won again in a rematch that happened on the following episode of SmackDown Live, seemingly bringing an end to the feud. Here’s a video clip from the Corbin-Kalisto match from TLC:
