WWE Rumours: Update on Becky Lynch's injury and how the WWE could address it at No Mercy

Becky Lynch’s injury could lay her out of action for up to a month

Prowrestling Sheet reported earlier this morning that WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch, was injured and would likely not be defending her title against Alexa Bliss at the No Mercy pay-per-view.

As per the initial reports, she was expected to be out for about a month.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, however, has later weighed in on the matter, revealing that Becky’s injury isn’t as serious as it was suspected, and that she should be back in action before the next pay-per-view.

An angle along the lines of what Randy Orton enacted with Bray Wyatt at Backlash could well play out tomorrow, where Becky is either written off the storylines like Orton was, or even show up to the pay-per-view and explain why she won’t be able to compete.

Another possible solution, however, could be following how the WWE dealt with Sasha Banks’ injury; making her lose the Title to Charlotte and then having her win it back on Raw when she was fully fit.

Technically, the WWE would have to strip the Champion if he or she is unable to perform for 60 days, but given that Becky Lynch is only expected to be out of action for a month if early estimates are to be believed, they may choose to keep the title on her while they find another opponent for Alexa Bliss, or reschedule the match entirely even.

The factor that would likely sway the decision one way or another has to do with whether the WWE feels if there is anyone else on the SmackDown Women’s roster that can shoulder the title in Becky’s absence, like Charlotte did when Sasha was injured.

If the WWE can settle on a financially prudent replacement, Becky Lynch may have to vacate the belt while she recuperates.

The feud between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss has been one of the most engaging storylines on SmackDown, as Bliss has made the step-up from NXT to the main roster almost seamlessly.

Becky’s injury may have thrown a spanner in the works for now, but it should only be a matter of time before the two square off again in the future.
