WWE Rumours: Criticism over the WWE Universal title

Rollins and Balor will face each other for the WWE Universal Title

On 21st August at SummerSlam , Finn Balor and Seth Rollins will square off against one another for the WWE Universal Championship. However, there has been a certain controversy surrounding this championship. The WWE Universe, Smackdown’s general manager Daniel Bryan and the now ex-WWE employee Joey Styles have not taken kindly towards the new championship. Everyone is poking fun at the Universal title’s name.

Even the internal mechanism of the WWE is not happy with the name of the title. The Universal title was brought in when the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose defeated Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at Battleground taking the title back with him to Smackdown Live, to which he was drafted before the PPV.

Thus, on the first episode of the new Monday Night RAW, the WWE Universal title was announced by the RAW General Manager Mick Foley and Commissioner Stephanie McMahon. Ever since the announcement, everyone from the WWE Universe has been making jokes about the name of the championship. This sort of reaction amongst the fans for the main-event championship which will be on WWE’s flagship three-hour show is not at all good for business.

WWE have not responded to these reactions in any way, and it seems like WWE is not concerned with the fans’ reactions and are moving forward with the name of the title as it is. Even the design of the championship is still under wraps, making many fans wonder about its look as well.

Well, whatever the case may be right now, the Universal title is staying as the Universal title, but there are chances that they might go on to change the name of the title if the issue still persists.
