WWE Rumours: Dudley Boyz to split on RAW?

The Dudleys are the most decorated tag team in the history of the WWE

The Dudley Boyz are one of those tag teams in WWE that has stood the test of time. Be it in the Attitude era, the Ruthless Aggression era or the New era, they have always been a significant faction on the roster. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the duo is the most decorated tag team in the history of WWE.

However, with the brand split, there have been some speculations whether WWE was considering breaking up the team of Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley. WWE had previously announced that Sami Zayn and Neville would be taking on The Dudley Boyz at SummerSlam. It has been speculated that the main reason WWE decided to add this last minute match was because they have plans to lay the groundwork for their split.

In the closing moments of the match, Neville came into the ring leading to Bubba accidentally clotheslining D-Von due to a miscommunication. Sami Zayn then nailed a Helluva Kick and Neville hit a Red Arrow on Bubba for the win. Even on the last episode of RAW, the Dudley Boyz lost after a miscommunication, allowing the New Day to pick up an easy win.

These events have almost paved the way for a Bubba Ray heel turn on tonight’s RAW

However, the WWE would not want to repeat their mistakes during the previous split of the Dudley Boyz, that gave us “Reverend D-Von” and “Deacon Batista”. The last split was highly unpopular among fans and the two were reunited at Survivor Series 2002, just eight months after they had parted ways

The most obvious way to kick off a Bubba’s singles run would be to turn on his partner Devon, which could be a bad thing for the latter in the long run, or it could result in a good singles run for Devon as well. The point is, there is a lot of potential for The Dudley Boyz in WWE as a veteran tag team putting over the future, or breaking apart and trying their luck as singles stars.

The two men have recently signed a new contract with WWE and have at least one more year in the company, so they should continue to add to their collective legacy or start a new one.

On paper, being one of the best tag team should be a gateway into a singles run, especially with the experience and accolades someone like Bubba Ray Dudley has after roughly 25 years in wrestling. However, it will take some work for Bubba to become a singles wrestler since he is so well known by the WWE Universe as the man who tells Devon to get the table.
