WWE Rumours: Possible spoiler for No Mercy main event

It will be Styles vs. Cena vs. Ambrose

The WWE World Championship match at SmackDown Live’s exclusive pay-pay-view (PPV) No Mercy will see Champion AJ Styles defends his title against John Cena and former WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose. Styles won the title from Ambrose in their matchup at BackLash earlier this month, hence becoming a champion of WWE, TNA, and New Japan Pro Wrestling in his historical career.

Ambrose, however, is reportedly set to take some time off from the WWE in order to focus on filming for a brand new WWE Studios project in which he will star. Due to this, it is looking less and less likely that Ambrose will win the title come No Mercy given that he is set to take a bit of a hiatus form the ring.

A John Cena title reign is also highly unlikely, as the leader of the Cenation is also set to take a break from in-ring work. Cena is expected to take another hiatus in order to film the new season of his show American Grit. So it can be expected for Styles to emerge victorious when it is all said and done come fight night in the main event of No Mercy.

Styles is arguably the only major star left on the SmackDown roster without Cena or Ambrose, so it should be interesting to see who Styles will be paired up with in a title program going forward. A program with Randy Orton is certainly a possibility, as Styles revealed in a recent interview that he is very interested in doing a match with ‘The Legend Killer’.

Another option would be to call up the now former NXT Champion Samoa Joe from the NXT roster, finally getting his long-awaited opportunity on the WWE’s main roster since inking a deal with the company.

Joe and Styles previously worked together back in their storied days in TNA, which made them into the stars they are today. A program between Joe and Styles would be an amazing spectacle, as the two talented performers already have amazing chemistry with one another.

No Mercy will air live on the WWE Network from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California next month on October 9, 2016.
