WWE Rumours: Seth Rollins big babyface angle in the works?
In 2015 when Seth Rollins was the heel champion of The Authority, there were subtle hints of seeds being planted for a feud between Seth Rollins and his mentor, Triple H. It was rumoured that this was going to be one of the marquee matches of Wrestlemania 32. However, due to Rollins injury, that plan got scrapped, or rather, postponed. Instead, Triple H ended up main eventing Wrestlemania 32 against Roman Reigns for the WWE World Championship.
Rollins did return at the end of May this year, and instantly was in a program with Roman Reigns for the world title at Money In The Bank. Rollins did successfully capture the World Championship from Reigns at Money In The Bank, however, it was only for 2 brief minutes as Dean Ambrose ended up cashing in on his Money In The Bank briefcase which he had won not more than an hour earlier.
Allwrestlingnews reported that WWE had considered an angle where Rollins and Reigns would do the double turn, but that plan was scrapped and won’t be happening in the near future, as WWE still intend to push Reigns as a top babyface once more next year onwards.
Seth Rollins had been a heel since his return but on the edition of Raw where he was one of the four competitors for the vacant Universal Championship, Triple H returned and turned on Rollins, thus crowning Kevin Owens the new Universal Champion. Despite not being a heel anymore, Rollins still shows heelish behaviour. However, this is because they are letting the face turn of Rollins be a slow burn.
The report also mentions that WWE are going forward with a full-fledged angle which will see Rollins cement his babyface turn, and eventually face Triple H. It is not specified whether it will be at the grandest stage of them all, but it is presumed to be so, as they were originally penned into face off at Wrestlemania this year.
It appears that the plan to turn Rollins’ face was sped up after Finn Balor got injured, as they needed a top face to take his spot, and Roman Reigns is currently in a position where they are grooming him once more to try to get the top babyface spot. Either way, once Triple H surfaces again, we will finally get to see Rollins’ face turn cemented. It is long overdue, as Rollins is someone the fans have always loved to cheer.
