WWE Rumours: Seth Rollins to win the WWE Universal Championship on Raw

The World Championship of Raw

Finn Balor defeated Seth Rollins at Summerslam to become the inaugral WWE Universal Champion. The WWE Universe was very happy about the fact that Balor became the first ever Universal Champion, but were not fond at all of the championship belt, which they spent most of the time during the championship match chanting against, with chants like “That belt sucks!”.

Seth Rollins and Mick Foley took to social media to expressed their displeasure with the crowd over focusing on the championship belt instead of the match.

Seth Rollins, on the next night on Raw, in fact, lashed out on the crowd during a commercial break. The WWE Universal Championship was relinquished by Finn Balor earlier that night, due to a shoulder injury which he obtained by taking a buckle bomb from Seth Rollins on to the barricade.

It is expected that Balor will return to action in 6 months, but knowing wrestlers, it could be even sooner. It is unlikely any one would object to a return by Balor in the Royal Rumble.

Sometime last week, it was reported that the original plans for Finn Balor’s title reign had him pencilled in to face Kevin Owens at Clash Of Champions, the first Raw-exclusive Pay-Per-View after the draft.

He was then scheduled to face Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho in a triple threat match at Hell In A Cell which takes place in October. It is not known what the plans for Balor after that were, but it was rumored that Brock Lesnar would be challenging for the WWE Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble next year, so it is possible that a Finn Balor-Brock Lesnar match was penned in as well.

Tonight on Raw, there is going to be a Fatal Four Way to decide the new WWE Universal Championship. Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Big Cass will be competing. While Reigns was stated as the initial favourite, there is now rumors which state that The Architect, Seth Rollins, will be winning the championship on Raw, and will then proceed on the same creative road that was planned for Finn Balor, i.e, facing Kevin Owens at Clash Of Champions, and subsequently facing Owens and Jericho in a Triple Threat match at Hell In A Cell.

However, it is an arguable claim, as both bouts then would be featuring only heels, something that goes against common logic in the WWE.

There have also been rumors of Rollins and Reigns switching roles to babyface and heel respectively, but this too is unlikely.
