WWE Smackdown results - August 22, 2014
The SummerSlam fallout episode of Friday night Smackdown opened with a Randy Orton segment as he made his way into the ring. Orton said that one match doesn’t mean the Roman Reigns has won the war. It doesn’t define him as well as Reigns for that matter. He has been called the Legend Killer, Apex Predator and the Viper and Reigns will get what he deserves. He then turns his attention to his opponent for the night, Rob Van Dam and refers to him as nothing more than “collateral damage.” He will emerge victorious and it will be a warning to everyone in the back and the WWE Universe.
Here are the results from the show.
Seth Rollins vs Jack Swagger
Mr. Money In The Bank faced Swagger after he issued a challenge on WWE Main Event. The Real American tried to work his way back into the ring after Rollins hurled him over the barricade. But that didn’t prevent him from escaping the Curb Stomp as Rollins executed his signature move while Swagger tried to climb through the ropes. As a result, Swagger dropped back down to the ringside floor for the count-out.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Bo Dallas appeared after the match and told Swagger that he let down his fellow Americans by losing to Rusev at SummerSlam. However, Bo is willing to shoulder America’s hopes and become the “American Sweetheart.”
Rusev vs Sin Cara
Rusev made a meal of Sin Cara as the luchador was forced to tap out when the Russian Contingent applied the Accolade. Rusev decided to deliver a message to the WWE universe by holding onto the submission maneuver even after the bell rang so as to show that this is exactly what happens when you disrespect the Russian Federation.
Winner: Rusev
Out came Mark Henry to confront Rusev. Four days fresh from the overpowering by the World’s Strongest Man, Rusev opted to back out as he slowly retreated amidst a barrage of shouting by both camps.
Randy Orton vs Rob Van Dam
With Roman Reigns in the back of his mind, it seemed Orton could care less if he won or lost his bout against Rob Van Dam. All he was focused on was to demolish the former IC champion and send a warning to Reigns. And that is exactly what the Viper did as he unleashed an assault on the high-flying superstar at ringside that led to a no contest. Orton’s vicious attacks continued after the match as he RKO-ed Van Dam onto the steel chair and promised Reigns that he will see him after the show.
Result: No Contest
