WWE Smackdown results - July 4, 2014
The 4th of July episode of WWE Smackdown taped from Newark, New Jersey was broadcasted last night as WWE wrapped up its fallout week from Money In The Bank PPV.
Seth Rollins came down to the ring as Friday night kicked off. The MITB briefcase holder reminded the crowd about what happened on last Monday night Raw with John Cena and said that he got lucky. But he won’t be lucky next time as the clock is ticking and he will run out of his time for survival. Rollins tells the fans to get used to this situation as he will become the new face of the WWE.
Dean Ambrose comes out and interrupts Rollins. He vows that he will never let Rollins get close to any titles. He calls his former partner delusional and rolls the footage from last week where Rollins was prevented from capitalizing on Cena’s situation. He says that this will be his life for the next year before rushing into the ring and attacking him. Randy Orton follows him and soon it turns into a 2-on-1 assault on Ambrose. Roman Reigns comes out in aid of his team-mate and they both fight Orton and Rollins out of the ring.
Triple H comes out on the stage and makes his point by putting Ambrose in a main event against Seth Rollins. The Game also barred Reigns from making any kind of interference in the match by putting his spot in the Fatal 4-way match at Battleground PPV in jeopardy.
Here are the results from the show.
Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio for US title
US champion Sheamus’ 4th of July challenge was answered by Alberto Del Rio as both the superstars engaged in a title bout in the first match of the night. It was an exciting encounter between two superstars who were of course very familiar with each other. Sheamus managed to escape from the Cross Armbreaker before Del Rio scored a nearfall by delivering a Moonsault. But the Mexican export could not get the better of the Celtic Warrior as Sheamus landed a Brogue Kick to retain his US title.
Winner: Sheamus

Bo Dallas vs Diego
After Michael Cole’s interview with Daniel Bryan at MITB is shown, Bo Dallas talks about “Little Fella” Daniel Bryan while he makes his way into the ring and promises to become the new Intercontinental Champion at Battleground. Diego came out next and the match commenced. Bo hit a Clothesline on Diego in the corner ropes, but the El Torito member came back by slamming Bo’s head into the corner. But the Bo-lieving streak continued after Bo hit the Bo-Dog on Diego to pick up a victory.
Winner: Bo Dallas
