WWE SmackDown Results: Shocking title change; former champ returns; WWE legend to face ex-Universal Champion at Crown Jewel

We saw Randy Orton speaking to Triple H backstage before heading to the ring to kick off WWE SmackDown. Orton reminded us that he was denied a match against Kevin Owens last week before HHH made his entrance.

Randy said that he was trying to protect Owens before Triple H said that he was trying to protect Orton.

HHH added that KO was a prizefighter, and he has never had a friend who he didn't turn on. However, the first time Owens trusted someone, Randy and Cody betrayed him.

Triple H didn't want Randy to return to the shelf with another injury, and Orton told him to cut the cr*p.

Orton said he wasn't being impulsive and knew what was at stake. Triple H finally agreed to book the match for Crown Jewel before we headed for the first match of the night.

Gunther was in it for himself and wanted to know why Cody wanted to win. Cody said that none of this would exist without him and that he wanted the prestige.

Gunther claimed that he was the workhorse of WWE and that he knew what it meant to carry the company on his back.

The World Heavyweight champ added that he got the exact requests from the media as Cody, but he refused them because he was serious about his role as champ. Cody made fun of the Ring General moniker and said that he had more guts than Gunther.
