Has WWE snagged another TNA legend?
The WWE seems to be making big moves in 2016, having already signed four NJPW stars, if the buzz is true. The Universe now has another huge name to look forward to, according to DailyWrestlingNews.
It was reported in November last year that former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries was at an NXT show. Though he did not wrestle on the show, sources said he was in his gear, so it was likely that he tried out in front of the talent scouts. Fellow TNA star Gunner was with him at the event.
The conjecture that Aries might be signing with the WWE was given fresh fodder when he was absent in the recent TNA tapings. The coals were stoked more when Aries was seen in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this week, presumably to undergo WWE medical tests.
There was wide belief that Aries was supposed to debut on NXT this month, but despite that not coming to pass, his lung-opener in the WWE is still expected to be in its developmental territory.
Amongst his many accolades in TNA, Aries’ most prominent is his six wins of the X-Division Championship. He remains the longest reigning TNA X-Division Champion, keeping the belt for a record 301 days after his maiden win of that title. If (big) he comes to the WWE, will we see an Aries-AJ Styles rivalry that never happened in TNA, or even better, another angle with his old sparring partner Samoa Joe?
