WWE Spoilers: Major update on NXT Championship at Melbourne

The rematch between the two is set to air next week

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Samoa Joe in their fourth and possibly final match to retain the NXT Championship. The bout took place in a steel cage.

Before the match, there was a technical issue with the lowering of the steel cage.

The fans in attendance said that the cage got stuck half-way when lowering. Also, as seen in the image above, the ends of the cage were not compact. However, as expected, the match stole the show.

The match between the two pillars of NXT spells the end of the 5-month long feud. Nakamura first won the NXT Championship from Joe at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II. In a shock move, the title was put back on Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover: Toronto.

However, The King Of Strong Style won it right back from Joe at a live event in Osaka in front of his home country fans. The blow-off match took place in the steel cage at Melbourne.

On the latest episode of NXT, it was announced that a series of four matches would take place, and the winners of each bout would face off in a Fatal-4-Way match to determine the new Number One Contender for the NXT Championship. The winner of that bout will take on Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: San Antonio, the night before the Royal Rumble.

The four matches set to take place are:

Tye Dillinger vs. Eric Young
Elias Sampson vs. Roderick Strong
Oney Lorcan vs. Bobby Roode
Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. No Way Jose

The seven-week build to San Antonio will be rather short by NXT standards. While that would normally be a lot by main roster standards, the one-hour format of NXT permits comparatively less to happen per episode. Also, San Antonio will see fresh matches with fresh feuds.

After that, there will be a two-month build to NXT Takeover: Orlando, which will take place the night before Wrestlemania 33. Who do you want to see Nakamura face in San Antonio? Voice your opinions in the comments below.
