Sting opens up on his injury, his WWE future, return and more
Night Of Champions saw a tragic incident in the injury of Sting, which as reported was quite serious and career threatening. The Icon sat down for a Q&A session with the WWE website and opened up about the injury that has left the wrestling community at the edge of their seats.
He says that he suffered a stiff neck and a banged up feeling. Terming it as ‘pretty standard’ in such matches, he says that the situation is a ‘wait and see’ scenario where he is not sure when his return to WWE TV might be. He left the door open for another match if the time and scenario match. Below are the excerpts from the Q&A:
On the status of his injury, an evaluation and clearing everyone’s doubts on what actually happened
Sting says that he was in the hospital with neck braces and the Doctor even said he was lucky to walk out of Night Of Champions. “I was out in the hospital — out like a light. They had a neck brace on me, and they were pumping me with [medication] to get me out of pain. I had to do a CT scan and an MRI. They ended up talking to my wife, and I have some details from my wife, but I still have [further evaluation ahead],” says The Icon
He added, “They mentioned cervical spinal stenosis, but that’s only part of what I heard. I don’t know if there’s anything else. The doctor did tell my wife, “He’s going to have to get this dealt with. He’s lucky he walked out of there.”
On his short term and long term prognosis of the injury
The Vigilante states that he felt a numbness in both arms right up to his fingertips and didn’t feel quite right. He says,”Bottom line, I had tingling, numbness down both arms, all the way to my fingertips. And then, later in the match, I just fell wrong, whatever it was, and this time [the tingling and numbness] went down both arms and into my legs, and I couldn’t feel my legs too well.”
“They just felt like rubber. I don’t know how to describe it. I had to go down on all fours there for a minute, get my composure. I was a little … I was worried. Long term, well, I’m just going to take care of the short term first and see how the long term might play out,” added Sting.
On his awareness about when exactly did the injury happen during the match
Sting remembers really well that both the Buckle bombs were the culprits in aggravating the injury. “Oh, yeah, definitely. Both times into the turnbuckle. The first time was like a whiplash. [pause] It’s my fault, bottom line. I know better. The second time, I went up into the air and back toward the turnbuckle like that, I thought, “Well, that’s not going to happen again,” and it did. The second time was worse,” Says Stinger.
The injury suffered by Sting was quite unfortunate and the match had to be ended prematurely, but he showed what a true legend he is by finishing off the match, and kudos to him for showing his resilience. We pray for a speedy recovery and a quick return.
