WWE studios and Lionsgate sign new deal; Big Show to star in a movie
WWE studios and Lionsgate have signed a new production contract according to reports from Deadline. The deal will see them work on six movies together.
An action movie titled Vendetta, will be the first project under their joint venture and the film will star Big Show. The production phase will start this summer while the next film will be shot in the fall of this year.
Vendatta’s story is based on the concept of revenge as a detective commits a crime and intentionally goes to prison to settle his score with his wife’s killer who is serving a life sentence.
The Soska Sisters, who previously directed See No Evil 2, will direct the movie.
WWE and Lionsgate have said that the six movies will be action films with modest budgets.
Lionsgate Co-COO and Motion Picture Group President Steve Beeks said, “We’re thrilled to join forces with Michael and his WWE team on a series of modestly budgeted action films that extend our longstanding and successful partnership.”
“We have a strong track record in this genre, and we’re delighted to team with the WWE juggernaut to deliver action-packed event films that will resonate with their global fan base and beyond” he added.
