WWE SummerSlam 2024 - Star ratings for every match
Potentially one of WWE's best shows this year, SummerSlam 2024 was a huge success. It had several twists and turns worthy of the 'Big Four' premium live event.
The in-ring action was also brilliant throughout SummerSlam 2024. None of the seven matches disappointed in any way, although some of them could have been better. Nevertheless, everything on the show was delivered well. However, which was the best match? Let's find out.
Here are all seven matches at SummerSlam 2024 rated out of five stars.
#1. Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley - Women's World Championship
SummerSlam 2024 kicked off with a bang, as Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan went at it. The main story early on was Mami apparently dislocating her right shoulder before she popped it back into place. Ripley dominated and looked to have the match won before she got distracted by a steel chair that had been brought into the ring.
It eventually led to Morgan hitting multiple Oblivions, including one on the chair, courtesy of shenanigans involving Dominik Mysterio. He finally betrayed Mami at SummerSlam 2024, confirming his move after the match. Dirty Dom also ki*sed Liv Morgan after helping her beat Rhea Ripley.
The turn will take all the headlines, but the action before it was fun. With that being said, there is a lot of scope for improvement in future matches between Morgan and Ripley.
Rating: ***3/4
#2. Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker - WWE Intercontinental Championship
While not as great as their first match, Sami Zayn and Bron Breakker delivered a solid contest at SummerSlam 2024. They have good chemistry in the ring, as evidenced during their snappy six-minute bout. The match could have gone on longer but it did the job, as Breakker ended Zayn's Intercontinental Championship reign.
This was another great showcase for the second-generation star, whose top rope Frankensteiner always impresses. Bron Breakker ultimately defeated Sami Zayn with two explosive Spears, as he embarks on what is sure to be a dominant run with the Intercontinental Championship.
Rating: ***1/2
#3. Logan Paul vs. LA Knight - WWE United States Championship
The action began before the bell, as Logan Paul attacked LA Knight during his entrance. The Megastar fought off the assault and hit a TKO on the Maverick on the announce table. The two continued to go back and forth once the match started, with some big moves on display at SummerSlam 2024.
We got elbow drops, superplexes, and springboard Moonsaults among other things. Meanwhile, the finish saw Paul use brass knuckles on Knight, only for the challenger to hit a last-ditch BFT for the win. After nine months, we finally have a new United States Champion. This was a great start to LA Knight's title reign.
Rating: ****1/4
#4. Bayley vs. Nia Jax - WWE Women's Championship
Bayley had a great outing at SummerSlam 2024, as she and Nia Jax delivered a compelling contest for the WWE Women's Championship. The champion was clearly the underdog but fought hard to get on top. Jax came close multiple times too, including with an Annihilator. The Role Model became the first person to kick out of the dominating move.
However, Bayley's spirit was crushed after a Tiffany Stratton run-in tilted the match in Nia Jax's favor. The reigning Queen of the Ring hit two more Annihilators to finally become the new WWE Women's Champion at SummerSlam 2024. This match was better than expected and further proof of Jax's incredible improvement in the ring this year.
Rating: ****
#5. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre - WWE SummerSlam 2024
This felt epic, no questions about it. Six months in the making, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk truly went to war at SummerSlam 2024. Seth Rollins played a huge part in the match, without taking too much from the hatred between the two of them. In fact, The Visionary added to the heat.
It was not exactly the most athletic contest, but the story more than made up for it. This was gritty and felt real, especially due to the danger surrounding Punk's supposed fragility. The Best in the World ultimately got distracted from his goal of destroying McIntyre, as he spotted his bracelet on The Scottish Warrior's wrist.
Rollins then put it on, further enraging CM Punk. This proved to be the Second City Saint's downfall, as he hit a GTS on the referee only for Drew McIntyre to low blow him, before nailing a Claymore Kick for the win. This delivered a lot of what we were hoping, but it feels like there is more to come between the two following SummerSlam 2024.
Rating: ****1/2
#6. Damian Priest vs. Gunther - World Heavyweight Championship
The hard-hitting action at SummerSlam 2024 continued, with another great match. Damian Priest's World Heavyweight Championship reign ended with a bang as he took Gunther to the limit. The Archer of Infamy did himself proud with his performance against The Ring General.
The two chopped the life out of each other, to the point where both men's chests started bleeding. Priest matched Gunther in every aspect, technically and physically. However, Finn Balor's cameo led to his downfall. The Irishman put the challenger's foot on the rope following a South of Heaven Chokeslam.
Once Damian Priest noticed, that was it. He was too distracted to stop Gunther, even after initially escaping a Sleeper Hold. The Punisher eventually passed out, leading to the fourth title change at SummerSlam 2024. This was epic in its own way, with the physicality off the charts.
Rating: ****1/2
#7. Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa - Bloodline Rules Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
Bloodline Rules took over the main event of SummerSlam 2024, as Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa's match devolved into chaos. However, before that, both competitors put on a perfectly solid match.
Once the interference began, there was only one direction Rhodes and Solo were going to go. Kevin Owens and Randy Orton neutralized Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, while Jacob Fatu nearly won the match for his Tribal Chief. However, amid potential injury to The Enforcer, The American Nightmare kicked out of everything.
This was an insane show of resilience that ensured Cody Rhodes earned the victory despite the finish. We know how it went. Roman Reigns appeared in WWE for the first time since WrestleMania XL, as he immediately attacked Solo Sikoa.
A Superman Punch and a Spear later, Cody finished Solo off with the Cross Rhodes to end a fun brawl at SummerSlam 2024. The shenanigans helped this match succeed, with Reigns' return being the decisive factor. You cannot go too wrong with a moment that strong.
