WWE superstar Mark Henry talks about racism in pro wrestling
Recently, WWE superstar Mark Henry made an appearance on Huffington post where he discussed about Afro-Americans in pro wrestling and how they are projected.
The World’s Strongest Man had a lot of positive things to say about WWE’s attitude regarding this matter even though he had rejected that idea of doing a "Silverback" alias which WWE had intended to give him back in 2007.
"A lot of people remember the Silverback thing," he said. "Honestly, I could not do it. I told them: 'I can't do that. I got two little black kids at home.'"
On R-Truth’s dancing and rapping gimmick, Henry said, "R-Truth is a rapper, he dances, and he felt very uncomfortable recently with the article coming out. Because it tried to make everyone who dances seem buffoonish. And he is not that. R-Truth is a talented guy, I respect him as a performer and as an individual and as a man."
"When I put the tights down and put this suit on, I plan on representing Black people in industry, not just in wrestling. I will always be a part of the WWE; I want young men coming into the business to understand that we've got to project ourselves in a positive light, not just in the ring, but behind the scenes. And that's when the industry will change for Black culture," Henry concluded.
