WWE TLC 2014: Why Ambrose vs Wyatt will be a successful feud

Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt set to battle each other ta TLC

More than a month back WWE decided to have two of its young superstars to main event a PPV. Those two superstars are amongst a handful of superstars that Vince McMahon thinks have immense potential and can grab the proverbial brass ring of the WWE.

Without any shadow of a doubt, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins put up quite a show.

It was another gimmick match that they were entwined in. After a Lumberjack match, Money In The Bank ladder match and a Street Fight- they came to this.

But the outcome of the match was overshadowed by what seemed like a not so divine intervention. Bray Wyatt made an appearance just the way he can and rammed into Ambrose. And that led Rollins to take the pin and the win.

And just like that we knew that Dean Ambrose is moving on to another feud. And that next feud was a hardcore fans dream. A ‘dream’ might be an overstatement considering that with respect to the discussions surrounding WWE on the internet, the word ‘dream’ is placed besides ‘matches’ and that usually has WWE legends under the attention.

A much-awaited feud kicks off

A feud between Wyatt and Ambrose was highly anticipated given their very deranged characters. They’re both unhinged but in different ways. They are, one can say, the two types of unhinged.

The feud kicked off and it was very ambiguous in the beginning. It played second fiddle to the traditional Survivor Series Tag match. It featured one good exchange on Smackdown between the two. It was about Ambrose’s Survival Kit. It featured some convincing storytelling and then things started making sense, but then all of this happened on Smackdown, which doesn’t boast of an audience like Raw does.

This feud went into Survivor Series enveloped under the hype of what turned out to be the most spectacular, the main event.

But unlike the buildup to this feud, the match turned out to be better and it laid the foundation for the TLC pay per view.

The Theatre of The Absurd

This week on Raw, there were some interesting talking points from this feud. Firstly, the chemistry between these two is somewhat uncanny.

In a good way. Ambrose straightaway went after the Eater of The Worlds while the latter was exclaiming that he was here to change the world and make it work his way and that he and Ambrose could have ruled the world together.

Ambrose had enough of this and soon a brawl ensued which ultimately led Ambrose to break Wyatt’s rocking chair. That could have been anything like any prop getting destroyed but it seems that that chair was more than a dispensable prop. It is something whose demolition made Wyatt almost come to tears.

These two superstars are arguably the best promo workers in the company right now. But the most impactful moments in their feud so far haven’t involved words but actions.

That moment when Ambrose buried Wyatt under a pile of chairs and a table, that moment when he broke that rocking chair, that moment when Wyatt came to tears, that moment on Smackdown when Wyatt somehow appeared to be standing behind Ambrose and that moment again on Smackdown when Wyatt attacked Ambrose relentlessly.

It has been a visual narrative so far. It helps that both of them are quite theatric in their expressions.

It had a slow start but it is moving on to become quite an engaging feud. Both these superstars have Vince McMahon’s attention and the hardcore fans’ as well. It seems like ‘the slow and steady wins the race’ is applicable to this feud.

Come TLC, their match is bound to have a lot of attention and it seems that they will step up and make a run for that proverbial brass ring.
