WWE/UFC News: Cris Cyborg says she'll happily face Ronda Rousey in WWE
What's the story?
In an interview with TMZ today, Cris Cyborg opened up about Ronda Rousey joining WWE and whether she'd ever follow suit to face "Rowdy" in the squared circle - and the current UFC Women's Featherweight Champion had some very interesting ideas.
In case you didn't know...
Cris Cyborg Justino began her MMA career in 2005 at a show in Brazil where she suffered her only loss in UFC to date, holding a 19-1 professional record. Her last UFC victory was on December 30, 2017, when she defeated Holly Holm, the woman who shocked the world when she defeated Ronda Rousey, at UFC 219.
Rousey, meanwhile, looks to have left UFC behind completely, having signed a supposed full-time contract with WWE and saying it's now her priority - making an immediate impact by putting Triple H through a table seconds before officially signing to become a RAW Superstar.
The heart of the matter...
Well, ahead of her fight against Yana Kunitskaya, Cris Cyborg spoke to TMZ and was asked about Ronda Rousey joining WWE, and the likelihood of a clash between the pair, in the Octagon or the squared circle.
Well, Cyborg has some pretty interesting words, saying she doesn't watch WWE but that she's heard about Rousey in WWE and respects her decision to leave - while hinting that she may one day join Rousey in WWE to face Ronda Rousey.
The WWE Universe will have to be patient, though, as Cyborg said she's happy in UFC and loves her job.
She did speak of Rousey leaving fans waiting to see both of them clashing and seemingly ruled out ever signing a similar deal to Rousey - but the UFC star did say she'd be open to one match with Ronda Rousey in the squared circle, even joking that she would jump the ropes and hit Rousey with a steel chair!
Cyborg did end the interview, however, by commenting that if Ronda Rousey didn't want to face her in UFC, she doesn't think Rousey would allow the confrontation to happen in WWE either.
What's next?
Well, Ronda Rousey appeared at the Elimination Chamber to sign her contract with WWE, then the following night on RAW, and it looks like we may see a lot more of Rowdy in the build-up to what will be her first ever professional wrestling match at WrestleMania.
Cris Cyborg, however, will face Yana Kunitskaya in the Octagon tomorrow at UFC 222.
Author's take
While I think Ronda Rousey coming to WWE is a bit of a special case in that she's a HUGE WWE fan who brings the world of mainstream media, it is interesting that it seems to have opened the floodgates with several UFC stars at least entertaining the idea of one match in WWE.
I can't wait to see Ronda Rousey in WWE and, with the relationship between both companies looking better than ever, it's pretty awesome to see both companies and their respective athletes acknowledge one another in a respectful way.
