What's the story?

Toni Storm was able to overcome the threat of Rhea Ripley at NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool to prove that it really was Toni's time as she became NXT UK Women's Champion for the first time.

In case you didn't know...

Toni Storm won the second annual Mae Young Classic back at Evolution when she defeated Io Shirai in the final of a tournament that included a whole host of faces, and it was actually this win that propelled Storm into the path of NXT UK Women's Champion Rhea Ripley.

Ripley became the first-ever Champion of the brand a few months back and has since proved that she was a worthy inaugural winner of the Championship.

The heart of the matter

Toni Storm has made all the headlines for the wrong reasons over the past few weeks, but Storm was able to turn this around in Blackpool tonight when she took everything that Ripley threw at her and was still able to walk out with the NXT UK Women's Championship.

Storm was hit with The Rip Tide and it was thought that the match was over, but she became the first person to kick out of Ripley's finisher before she went for a Storm Zero of her own. One finisher wasn't enough to keep Ripley down, so Storm was forced to dig deep and once again hit Storm Zero. This time she was able to get the three count and pick up the win over Ripley to become just the second NXT UK Women's Champion.

What's next?

Toni Storm will have to face Rhea Ripley once again in the future since the 22-year-old will have her contractual rematch in the near future, but the New Zealand native looks as though she could bring about a change in the Women's Division with the likes of Kay Lee Ray and Jazzy Gabert at ringside to watch this victory.
