My name is John Wheeling. I have made a living in journalism chasing interviews, studying the people and animals of Africa, and taking on topics from the recreational to the controversial for over ten years. I have jumped out of a plane dressed as Santa to deliver gifts to the poor. I have written on the deadliest snakes in Africa with a 7’ tall snake charmer who handled them all. I have also taught, coached and written about underprivileged children in Namibia, one of whom I helped win a gold and a silver medal at the African Games in gymnastics as his coach of ten years.
I spent a decade in the beautiful country of Namibia, where I earned most of my income by touring the country and writing about these experiences, making videos and doing freelance work for various companies.
I have published a novel, With Footfalls of Shadow, under the pseudonym, Donogan Sawyer. I published eight annual versions of Leisure Times which was distributed on bookshelves throughout Namibia and South Africa, and I created the Dome News, which was a newspaper for the enormous athletic complex where I coached gymnastics in Namibia.
My latest book is a memoir, The Draegonsong Wager, which includes much of this experience.

I graduated with a Master's degree in professional writing in May, the same week my twin daughters graduated from High School. We came back to Pennsylvania to see grandma, and I ended up staying behind to look after her since she is losing her eyesight. My wife and I will stay with her as long as necessary while I work for Sportskeeda and my wife continues to prepare African safaris for clients.
