Dennis Schroder: A Brief Biography

Dennis Schröder is a German professional basketball player who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He started his professional basketball career playing for the SG Braunschweig, a farm team of Phantoms Braunschweig. In his first season, he averaged 7.8 points, 2.1 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Schröder had a breakout year in the 2011-12 season, averaging 17.8 points and 6.7 assists in 23 regular season games. In the playoffs, he averaged 18.8 points and 5.1 assists over 4 games. In the 2012-13 season, he averaged 12 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 25 minutes per game in 32 games and was named the League's Most Improved Player as well as Best Young German Player.

Schröder was drafted as the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Due to playing style and large hands, he was compared to Rajon Rondo. Schröder was guilty of frequent turnovers early in the season which led to him finishing his rookie season with just 49 games. He averaged 3.7 points in 13.1 minutes per game. In the 2014-15 season, Schröder had a breakout year averaging 10.0 points and 4.1 assists in 19.7 minutes per game.

In 2016, he signed a four-year, $70 million contract extension with the Hawks. He set playoff career-high 29 points, including 5 assists and 5 threes in a 103-99 loss against the Washington Wizards in Game 5 of the first round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs. In 2018, Schröder set a new career-high 41 points against the Utah Jazz in a 99-94 win. In the 2018 off-season, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal involving the Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
