Born on January 18, 1999, and Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Trent Jr. began his journey as a five-star recruit at Duke. Trent Jr was drafted with the 37th overall pick in the second round by the Sacramento Kings in 2018, who subsequently traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers where he emerged as a premier 3-point shooter in the NBA with a remarkable 41.8% accuracy just in the second season.

In 2021, the Toronto Raptors acquired Gary Trent Jr. in a trade where he has been consistently a great role player. On April 2nd, 2021, in a regular season game against the Golden State Warriors, Trent Jr had an unbelievable +54 plus-minus which is the second-highest in NBA history.
