Early Life
Jamal was born on February 23, 1997 in Kitchener, Ontario. He attended Grand River Collegiate Institute before transferring to Orangeville Prep School. He graduated as a five star recruit and committed to play for the Kentucky Wildcats under John Calipari. He played a solitary season there, averaging 20 points a game and subsequently declared for the 2016 NBA Draft.
NBA Journey
The Denver Nuggets selected Jamal Murray with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He had a solid rookie year and was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Over the next few seasons, he made steady progress and his numbers went up. He also developed chemistry with Jokić in the pick and roll. The Nuggets’ improvement coincided with the development of their future star.
During the 2020 NBA Playoffs that were held in the NBA Bubble, he broke out. The Nuggets and the Jazz played out a fiercely contested seven game series where Jamal hit 50 twice, averaging 31.6 points a game. His heroics in the postseason would take Denver to their first conference finals since Melo was leading them. They would lose out to the Lakers in five games.
