Jaylen Brown is an American professional basketball player who plays as a shooting guard for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. He is currently in his sixth season. He was selected by the Boston Celtics with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Brown was chosen as an NBA All-Star for the first time in 2021, and he led the Celtics to reach the 2022 NBA Finals. He can work as a small forward or a shooting guard. Brown, being an African-American, sometimes got criticized in the NBA for his high IQ.
Early life
Brown attended Marietta, Georgia's Wheeler High School. Brown led Wheeler to an overall record of 30-3 as a senior while averaging 28 points and 12 rebounds. As a member of the USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team, Brown won a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Americas Championship and was well-known for his agility. Additionally, he received a roster spot for the 2015 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. Brown made a commitment to join the Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley, on May 1, 2015, under head coach Cuonzo Martin. Brown averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 27.6 minutes per game over 34 games for the Golden Bears in 2015–16. Thus, Brown was selected the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and received first-team All-Pac-12 recognition.

He participated in college basketball for the University of California Golden Bears for one season.In a 74-73 victory over Arizona in January 2016, Brown scored 15 points plus, setting a season high with 7 assists, winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Pac-12 honors. The Boston Celtics picked Brown with the third overall choice in the 2016 NBA Draft on June 23, 2016. following six Summer League games where he averaged 16.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.3 steals. He beat the Orlando Magic 128–98 on January 17, 2017, scoring a then-career-high 20 points in the process. The Celtics received the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference thanks in part to Brown. Thus, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team at the end of the season.

Brown played beautifully throughout the finals and scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out five assists in Game 1 of the Finals, defeating the Golden State Warriors 120-108. Brown scored 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out five assists in a 116-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the Finals to take a 2-1 series lead. Despite Brown's 34-point performance in the 103-90 final-round defeat in Game 6, Boston would go on to lose to Golden State in six games.
