Johnny Davis: A Brief Biography

Early Life and High School Career

Johnny Davis grew up in Wisconsin and attended high school and college there. He played basketball for La Crosse Central High School and left the school as its all-time leading scorer with 2,158 career points. He averaged over 25 points and 9 rebounds per game and was named his school’s Player of the Year multiple times.

College Career

Johnny Davis played for the Wisconsin Badgers of the Big Ten conference for two seasons. He was named Big Ten Player of the Year in 2022 and also received two coveted awards, the Jerry West Award and the Lute Olsen award. The Jerry West award is given to the best shooting guard in the nation in collegiate sports and is awarded by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Lute Olsen Award is given to the most outstanding player in collegiate sports. Hence, Davis is one of the most sought-after guards in the 2022 NBA Draft class.

NCAA Tournament Performance

The Wisconsin Badgers, unfortunately, didn’t make it far in the NCAA tournament. They won the first round against the Colgate Raiders and Johnny Davis dropped 25 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting 4-10 from three-point range. The Badgers then lost to the Iowa State Cyclones in Round 2 and Davis had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks while shooting 4-9 from deep.
