Middleton played basketball for the Cyclones while attending Porter-Gaud School. Middleton was selected as the state player of the year for his junior season after averaging 21 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. As a senior, he continued to post similar numbers, guiding Porter-Gaud to the state championship game with 22.4 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.
