Paul George: A Brief Biography
Paul George is an American professional basketball player who plays as a shooting Guard for the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. He is currently playing his 12th season and has been a seven times NBA All-Star and a member of the NBA All-Star team six times. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers as the 10th overall choice in the 2010 NBA Draft. Nicknamed “PG-13” due to his size, talent, and athleticism is among the league's most gifted players. As a result, is frequently compared with Tracy McGrady, a former NBA star. His height is 6'9", and his wingspan is 6'11". He has developed into one of the NBA's top two-way players thanks to his excellent physical abilities. Despite breaking his leg, he recovered to become an NBA superstar.
Early life
On May 2, 1990, PG was born in Palmdale, California. He played basketball in high school for Knight High School in Palmdale, where his senior year he averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds. George was honored as the Golden League's Most Valuable Player after helping Knight win the league championship. George finally opted to play for the Fresno State Bulldogs after a string of decommitments. He finished second in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in terms of 3-point shooting (44.7%), steals (59), and steals per game(1.74). He had the third-best 3-point field goal % on the Fresno State Bulldogs men's basketball team.
Paul played two seasons for Fresno State. As Paul George entered Sophomore he was one of the most entertaining players in the west region. He had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the 2010 WAC tournament, but his team fell to Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals. George averaged 16.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 steals while shooting 42.4 percent from the field. Thus, was in the All-WAC second team. After two seasons of playing there, he decided to enter the 2010 NBA Draft.
NBA Journey
In the 2010 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers picked Paul George as the 10th overall choice. PG was selected for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after a respectable rookie campaign. After making steady progress during his sophomore year, he finally found his stride in 2012–2013 thanks to a bigger offensive role. He received his first all-star selection and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player. PG led the Pacers to consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014, earning spots on All-NBA Teams in both years.
In a Team USA scrimmage during the 2014 offseason, he sustained a complex fracture to his right leg. Even after this setback, he recovered and was chosen for the 2015–2016 NBA All-Star and All-NBA teams.
PG was moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder before the start of the 2017–2018 NBA Season, where he paired up with Russell Westbrook. He would go on to experience some of his finest statistical seasons as a player, even coming in third place for the MVP award during the 2018–19 campaign. Despite PG's MVP-caliber play, both of his seasons were cut short in the opening round of the playoffs. Both PG and Russ asked for transfers after the 2019 NBA season ended.
PG partnered up with Kawhi Leonard, a fellow Californian, after being traded to the LA Clippers. He sustained a shoulder injury, which caused him to miss some of the 2019–2020 NBA Regular Season. PG had a terrible postseason run in the Bubble during the 2020 NBA Playoffs. He notoriously smacked the side of the backboard during game seven against the Denver Nuggets, earning him the nicknames "Way Off P" and "Pandemic P" from the NBA community. These nickname references were made in light of George's past use of the nickname "Playoff P."
During the 2020–21 season, he recovered and helped the Kawhi–less Clippers reach the Western Conference Finals. After an absence of a year, he was chosen to an All-NBA Team. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, he captured a gold medal with the Team USA Men's Basketball team.
In the 2021-2022 season, PG sprained his right elbow, and due to this he missed 3-4 weeks and came up in march. On April 9, George tied his career best with 12 assists and added 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals in a 117–98 win over the Sacramento Kings.
On December 14, 2022, in a 99-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, George notched his fourth triple-double of his career with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
