Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Football Introduction

Louisiana Tech University established its football program in 1901 under the guidance of Edwin Barber. Subsequently, Percy Prince took the helm in 1909, leading the team to victory in the 1915 Louisiana Intercollege Athletic Association championship. Following this success, George Bohler coached the Bulldogs from 1930 to 1933, achieving a notable undefeated season in 1931.

Over the years, Louisiana Tech has claimed three national titles, including the College Division National Championship in 1972 and the Division II National Championship in 1973. Additionally, they have secured an impressive 25 conference championships, with 20 outright victories. Since joining Conference USA in 2013, the Bulldogs have continued to demonstrate their competitiveness by clinching the C-USA West title twice and sharing it once. This consistent success underscores their prominent position in college football.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Football History

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Football History spans over a century, dating back to 1901, when Edwin Barber coached the team. Percy Prince led the Bulldogs to their first championship in 1915. From 1940 to 1966. When Joe Aillet was coaching, Tech Football had a really good period. Aillet became the coach who won the most games in Tech football history during this time. Maxie Lambright took over from Aillet, guiding the team to three consecutive national championships from 1972 to 1974 and coaching legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw.

Larry Beightol's tenure in 1979 saw a downturn in performance, leading to Billy Brewer's appointment from 1980 to 1982, during which the team won the Southland Conference title. A. L. Williams followed, achieving moderate success, including an appearance in the 1984 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game. Carl Torbush's brief stint in 1987 was followed by Joe Raymond Peace's tenure from 1988 to 1995, where the Bulldogs experienced mixed results. Gary Crowton took over from 1996 to 1998, leading the team to a 21-13 record before departing for an NFL role with the Chicago Bears.
