The opening stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is done and dusted, with eight teams from four Groups qualifying for the second round of the biennial showpiece event.
Group A saw former champions India and co-hosts, United States of America qualify for the Super-8, with 2009 winners Pakistan missing out, thanks to their defeats against India and the US.
Group B saw former champions Australia ease past the Group by picking up four consecutive victories. Defending champions England sneaked into the Super-8, thanks to their superior NRR compared to Scotland.
Group C saw Afghanistan pip 2021 runners-up New Zealand to claim a spot in the Super-8. Co-hosts West Indies eased into the Super-8, thanks to three consecutive victories over PNG, Uganda, and the BlackCaps.
The final Group saw the Proteas book their spot for the Super-8 by picking up four wins on the bounce. The second spot went to Bangladesh, thanks to their victories over Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Netherlands.

As per the pre-tournament seeding system, Group 1 comprises A1, B2, C1, and D2.
India (A1), and Australia (B2) qualified comfortably thanks to their seamless run during the group stage. Afghanistan pipped New Zealand (C1) to claim the C1 seed, while Bangladesh pipped Sri Lanka (D2) to earn the seed of the 2014 champions.

Group A saw one of the biggest upsets, as the United States of America defeated Pakistan to claim the latter’s seed (A2).
Defending champions England overcame the odds to retain their seed (B1), while the West Indies and South Africa eased past in their respective groups to claim the spot in Group 2.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super-8 Format
Each team will play the three remaining teams of their Group once.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
